One of South Africa’s most recognisable butchery brands, Bluff Meat Supply, needed a digital platform that was as bold and well-cut as their offering. Coffee Creative was brought on to concept, design and build a full e-commerce website for the brand, a first for their business. With click-and-collect and delivery functionality, clean design and powerful integrations, this project marked an exciting step forward for a household name in local retail.

The brief

Bluff Meat Supply had never ventured into online shopping before. Our challenge was to introduce and implement a user-friendly digital retail experience, while keeping the platform rooted in their long-standing reputation for quality. The project required both strategic planning and technical execution – with a sharp eye on design.

For the first time, customers could browse, buy and collect, all with just a few clicks.

The process

Strategy and Wireframing

Before design began, we mapped out a full wireframe to ensure content hierarchy, navigation and functionality were clear. With multiple product types, branches and customer goals, we prioritised a seamless shopping journey across all touchpoints.

Designing the Experience

The visual tone was bold, minimal and premium – echoing the product. High-contrast images of quality cuts, paired with dark backgrounds and clean typography, gave the site a modern, confident feel. We presented full designs for the homepage and all secondary pages before beginning development.

Building for Functionality

At its core, this was a full e-commerce website with:

  • Click-and-collect functionality
  • Product checkout via Payfast
  • A later addition of delivery options, based on user research
  • A newsletter sign-up integrated with Mailchimp
  • Google, Facebook and LinkedIn tracking pixels for campaign optimisation
  • A store locator for in-person visits
  • An intuitive mobile experience for shoppers on the go

The direction

The website balanced trust and innovation. As an established name in local meat retail, Bluff Meat Supply needed a platform that felt modern but familiar. We used black, white and gold accents, giving it a boutique-butcher feel while ensuring speed and clarity in user flow. The photography did the heavy lifting – with clean, close-up images that made browsing mouth-watering.

Summary

Though our version of the site is no longer live, our work on Bluff Meat Supply’s e-commerce platform remains a great example of how tradition and technology can work together. From click-and-collect to custom delivery, we built a system that introduced digital convenience to a trusted brick-and-mortar brand. We’re proud to have played a role in helping a South African staple take its first bold steps into e-commerce.
