At Coffee Creative, we believe in the power of giving back through meaningful actions that make a difference in people’s lives. Recently, as part of our Coffee Cares initiative, our team came together for a small but significant gesture, making 20 loaves of peanut butter and jam sandwiches for El Gibbor, a local community project dedicated to helping those in need.
El Gibbor Kitchen believes a warm meal is the first step toward hope and transformation, where every meal serves as a chance to change lives and uplift spirits.
Since they started in December 2018, their mission has been to feed those in need, both physically and spiritually, inspired by the strength and grace of their namesake, El Gibbor, meaning “Mighty God” in Hebrew. With faith and community at their core, they’ve changed lives, given people hope, brought them together, and lifted spirits. Every Monday and Thursday at 5:30 PM, they offer warm meals and fellowship to those in need. You can find them outside Steelbank at 120 Josiah Gumede Road, Pinetown.
As we sit in our comfy, air-conditioned office, diving into exciting projects, it’s important to take the time to realise how lucky we are and appreciate the small things we often overlook. For some, a simple sandwich might be the only meal of the day. It was a humbling reminder of how important it is to show kindness.
The task was simple: take 20 loaves of bread, peanut butter, and jam and make as many sandwiches as possible. But it wasn’t just about making sandwiches. Each sandwich bag had a personal note attached, a small message intended to brighten someone’s day. We had fun working together to write inspirational messages of encouragement, hoping that a simple note would lift someone’s spirits, even if only for a moment.
We split into teams and set up a simple production line in the studio. Some of us buttered the bread. Others cut the sandwiches, packed them up, and wrote little notes to go with them. There was laughter echoing throughout the office as each team worked through the morning, making as many sandwiches as possible. Not to brag, but we were a well-oiled machine, and in no time at all, we used a LOT of peanut butter and jam.
As we prepared the sandwiches, it became clear how much these small acts of kindness matter. They might seem trivial, but the thought and care behind them can have a lasting impact. In giving back to the community, we also reflected on how grateful we are for what we have, the stability of our jobs, the comfort of our homes, and the opportunities we sometimes forget to be thankful for. This grounding experience reminded us of the importance of compassion and empathy.
At Coffee Creative, we want to inspire others to appreciate what they have and remember that even the smallest acts of kindness can create ripples of positivity. It doesn’t take much to make a difference. Sometimes, it’s as simple as making a sandwich with a note of kindness. In the end, it’s not about how much you give but the thought and care that goes into it. Special shout out to El Gibbor for the amazing work they do for our community.
